Father Son Camping Trip - Lake Powell

My friend Mark and I started a new tradition, We arrived on Friday the 30th with our boys and immediately launched the boat and started looking for a camping spot, The beach areas in the canyons were mostly taken so we opted for a different type of camping spot, one that turned out better than we expected.  Setting up camp was a breeze because of our "30 Sec" pop up tents and shade canopy but even that wasn't fast enough for the boys who wanted to go fishing, so we loaded up the gear and found a shade spot in Moki Canyon where we proceeded to catch 5 decent sized strippers.  We went back to the campsite and filleted the fish and started cooking them for dinner while the boys went exploring in the back canyons. Dinner completed the boys stated that they wanted to go fishing again so we set them up with Anchovies and chummed the area right in front of our campsite but there wasn't much action that night so we started a fire and made smores and looked at the stars.  The next morning the boys we up bright and early and wanted to fish right away, we had chummed the stream feeding the lake in front of our camping area so we had a nice Anchovy chum slick and boy did it pay off! "Fish On" the boys caught fish after fish after fish they were biting at all depths and pretty much any part of the Anchovy.  The boys caught 15 to 20 fish that morning mostly strippers with a few catfish and Mark caught one Walleye when we had to tell them to stop! Mark and I were trying to fillet the fish but we couldn't keep up with all the "Fish on" and by then the sun was out and he and I were getting exhausted/dehydrated.  We offered to take them swimming or tubing/skiing but all they wanted to do was FISH! so we forced them to swim for 15 mins to cool down and then it was back to the grind...."Fish On"  they caught another 15 fish that afternoon/evening and by the time we made our evening fire Mark and I were hoping every fish got off their line.

While laying in bed that night my son said "Wake me up at 5:00 am so I can get a early start on fishing"  I asked "haven't you burned out on all the fishing?" "Nope, wake me up" so the next morning while I made breakfast Mark baited hooks and unhooked fish after fish after fish.  We broke down camp and loaded the boat to leave at 8:30 am by which time the boys had caught another 8 fish which brought our total to 54 fish for the weekend, both boys crashed on the way home and Mark and I couldn't help but wonder if they would remember this trip when they get older, we sure will.
